Moreland Urban Heat Island Effect Action Plan: Moreland City Council 2016/2017

Reducing and responding to the Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE) – a phenomenon where the urban area is considerably warmer compared to surrounding rural areas – is a rapidly emerging priority for Moreland City Council. Moreland’s highly urbanised environment experiences a high UHIE due to its many dense, dark and solid surfaces that absorb heat, as well as concentrated human activity. It will take a long period of time to affect real change. This Action Plan is Council’s long term commitment to respond to the UHIE.
