Crows Nest
Placemaking and Principles Study: North Sydney Council December 2016

Following the announcement of the Crows Nest Metro Station in November 2015, Crows Nest and St Leonards have come under a significant amount of interest from the development industry and the State Government. The Metro has the potential to be a catalyst for positive urban renewal that yields significant economic, social and environmental benefits. However, given the highly valued, fine grained nature of Crows Nest and the already built up nature of St Leonards, any development proposing height or density above the existing planning controls as a result of this new infrastructure must be carefully planned. It must also be well designed and supported by much needed public domain upgrades and social infrastructure. In early 2016, Council ran a survey to understand the community’s aspirations for Crows Nest and surrounds once the Metro was operational. Of the 1000+ responses, the key message is to protect Willoughby Road. Wollstonecraft and the nearby heritage conservation areas yield similar comments.
